Fed: ACTU to hold anti-govt Medicare summit
Federal Labor, minor political parties, medical and community groups are to attenda union-run summit opposing the government's proposed changes to Medicare.
The ACTU is organising a half-day summit in Melbourne on May 2 to start a campaignagainst the proposed changes.
The Australian Medical Association says the changes include limiting incentives todoctors who bulk-bill concession cards to regional and outer-metropolitan areas.
ACTU president SHARAN BURROW says the ALP, Democrats and Greens have agreed to attendthe summit to give their view on a fight to save Medicare.
She says welfare, church, rural and medical groups, including the Australian Councilof Social Service and the Doctors' Reform Society, have also been invited.
Ms BURROW says there are no plans to invite the government.
