SA: Beazley says super can fund aged care

Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY says workers need to increase their private contributions
to superannuation to help fund aged care in Australia over the long term.

Mr BEAZLEY says a Labor government would consider incentives to lift total superannuation
contributions between three and six per cent higher than the nine per cent provided by
the current super guarantee.

However, he's ruled out increasing the guarantee above the nine per cent which will
take effect from next year, saying it would place too much of a burden on the budget surplus.

Mr BEAZLEY says a decent superannuation system would lift pressure off the budget,
allowing resources to be spent on aged care facilities.
