Vic: Esplin fire inquiry to be tabled today
MELBOURNE, Aug 26 AAP - Victoria's emergency services commissioner Bruce Esplin willtoday release an interim report of his inquiry into last summer's devastating bushfiresin the state's north-east.
Premier Steve Bracks said Mr Esplin had received about 270 submissions, and interviewed400 people about the fires, which burnt more than 1.3 million hectares of the state.
"He'll be making some recommendations on preparation for the fire season," Mr Brackstold radio station 3AW.
"On how we can better prepare with resources and support going into this fire season,how we can minimise the amount of material on the forest floor, and making sure we geton top of that in the future in a more comprehensive way."
Mr Bracks said the government would respond to Mr Esplin's report today.
He said the final report was due in about two months.
