Jan. 3--When Lt. Gov.-elect Casey Cagle, a Republican, volunteered to speak at the Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus meeting on the Tuesday following the Nov. 7 elections, many took it to signal a consensus attitude.
A few weeks later, as Lt. Gov.-elect Cagle and his inaugural committee chairman, Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, took a flight around the state in the lead-up to the legislative session, that attitude became even more apparent.
"Every day his message was to unite the Senate," Sen. Mullis said. "He's put a lot of bygones behind him."
